Desperation

Author's note: Yes, I was bored. And pissed. So I took it out on poor little Dibby-wibby. I dunno how good it is. I was wavering between him escaping or something Mythical, but I went for the myth. It probably made the entire story insanely stupid. Sorry! Argh, I'm not good at songs. Tell me how well it all is, please? Or I'll…do…something! Stupid short fluff stories that make no sense…oh, well. I'm proud of this particular one. SELF-INSERTION 4-EVER!

Heat. All around him. The sands, the sky. The hot blasts of wind nearly threw him to his knees, gasping for water.
Dib ran. The alien vootrunner stalked him. Like a wolf. Waiting. Waiting for it's prey to fall, knees buckling in exhaustion, then to pounce in for the kill the second the opportunity would show itself.
He was still a kid. Only a year had passed since Zim had come to Earth. Or was it more? His mind, feeble with dehydration and hunger, could not deal with memories. It could only give the simplest of commands now. Run. Don't stop. Jump. Roll. Rest. Get the hell out of there!
Ah-hah! Dunes! A chance to rest! Dib's pace quickened, a dangerous task, a possible waste of precious, precious energy. As soon as he reached them he could rest, maybe sleep-BOOM! The sands exploded beside him. Zim had seen what he had. Too late, Zim. I think I'll take a break now, thought Dib, jumping into the hills. The wavy, holey landscape could provide cover. He ducked into one of the many formations of rocks, immediately sinking down to the floor, his back on the wall. He couldn't sleep like the last time. Too few hiding places now. If only Zim hadn't built that stupid transportation machine and used it to do this to him! He had just found out about Zim's lab, when the alien's new invention was aimed at him and shot. Then…
He came to this hellhole. Zim had transported his vootrunner there too, tormenting him with the laser beam in the desert heat. By the time anyone would even miss him, he would be black dust on the sand. Or, even worse, in Zim's clutches, tortured for all the times he had foiled the alien's plans to take over his planet.
Dib crawled over to the opening of the rock cave. Perfect. Zim had his back to him, so to speak. Without a moment to lose, he jumped out of the cave opening and ran like Hell.
Zim noticed, far too soon. A sudden explosion, too close for comfort, sent the boy almost falling, arms waving to keep balance. Run. Don't stop. It reminded him of a song, written on some paper he had found outside the skool, titled, "When all else fails, run like hell". He was so delirious it played through his mind over and over as he dodged the alien's laser:

When all else fails, run like hell,

That is, unless you wanna kill yourself.

Whoever finds this song,

Take my advice,

Run like hell,

The chance isn't gonna come twice.

It repeated in Dib's mind, over and over. Then, the terrible happened. All the exhaustion, dehydration, and hunger piled up. He felt his legs weakening, his muscles giving up. NO! He forced his sore muscles on, crying out in pain, until, finally, he collapsed to his knees, then fell on his stomach. Rolling over, he could see the vootrunner circling him like a vulture. Kill me already, Dib thought, hoping the agony would end soon. Then, something else appeared. In the sky. He strained his eyes to see…A WOLF? In the desert? It has wings! I think I'm hallucinating…thought Dib. The winged wolf swooped down next to him; it's light silver fur gleaming in the sun. "Go away, hallucination," he groaned, closing his eyes. "I'm about to die. Can't I do so in peace?"
"No, I'm not letting you die. Not while I'm around," said the wolf. Dib sat upright.
"D-did you t-talk?"
"Yes. And now I'm going to save your life. Stay." With that, the wolf turned to face the ship, raising her head like she was about to howl. Instead, she shot a line of fireballs right at it.
The ship. Went. Down. Zim screamed and flew out of the hole the fire had made in the side, landing at the wolf's feet. She pinned him down with a paw and snarled.
"YOU PUNY EARTH-CREATURE! NO ONE CAN EVER DEFEAT ZIIIM!" He started kicking at her.
"I wouldn't try to fight me if I were you, Zim. I've killed a hot-shit egotistic alien green boy in these exact conditions." Her mind wavered back to the destroying of Dr. Sloth. Jesus, that was fun, she thought, then returned to the present. "I won't kill you, for the sake of all Jhonen fans everywhere, but I'll give you this to remind you." The wolf took out a claw and slashed three marks across the alien's face. "Bye now! Remember Silver Flash!" Zim and his vootrunner were instantly gone.
Dib watched with awe. He stood up and started to run away, only to be betrayed by his body. Down he went.
"I wouldn't run if I were you," said Silver Flash. She turned around and sat, folding her wings to her back.
"Well, what would you do if YOU were being hunted by a tiny green psychopath with a laser, and then saw a wolf with WINGS fly down, send him away, and TALK?"
"Ask it how it did those things."
"Smart aleck."
"I know." Silver Flash's icy blue eyes twinkled.
"So, how can you do those things?"
"This." A blue jewel appeared on her forehead. "The Element Stone of the Wind."
"Element Stone of the Wind?"
"It takes awhile to explain. For now, you need to get back to your home. I'm guessing you live where Zim does?"
"Near his street. But can't you tell me about this 'Element Stone'?"
"’Fraid not. Only for wolves to know. You'll probably figure it out, though, the great Paranormal Investigator you'll be. Now, bye. We WILL meet again, I assure you. Tell Zim Silver Flash said 'Hi'".
Dib disappeared. She smiled. "Poor kid. He's got a shitload of problems in his future."
She flicked her tail and was gone.
"DIB, DAMN IT!"
"Huh?" Dib sat upright. "What's wrong?"
"Will you shut up?! And stop yelling about silver flashes and talking wolves?!" Gaz screamed. "And DON'T wake me at 3:00 am on a SATURDAY unless you want me to DESTROY you!" she threw a wad of crumpled-up paper in his face and stomped out of his room, slamming the door behind her.
"3:00 am? But...wasn't I…oh, shit. It was a dream!" he muttered. The paper that Gaz threw at him was resting at his side. He picked it up and uncrumpled it, reading the words:

When all else fails, run like hell,

That is, unless you wanna kill yourself,

Whoever finds this song,

Take my advice,

Run like hell,

The chance isn't gonna come twice.

Below it was a note, newly written:

Hey, Dib. It's me. You know who I am. Sorry for not telling you about the Stone, but don't worry, you'll find out someday. And I'll help you with…stuff. We'll defeat Zim together. And show the world you aren't crazy. Remember that you're right. They're wrong. Always remember that, Dib.

See you later,
Silver Flash

Below the words was a colored-in picture of a pure silver wolf, white wings on its back and a blue stone on its forehead. It looked at him with icy blue eyes, then the picture winked and disappeared.
